Happy New Year from Sunny Spain!

Happy New Year to you all and we hope you had some enjoyable celebrations!

Before we got to Punta Umbria we had a one night stopover in Cáceres on an aire (N39°28'.49" W6°22.08").  We had a quick look around and time for a beer and some free tapas in the Plaza Mayor before the sun went down.

The old quarter was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986 and parts date back to 34BC and was well worth a visit.

We arrived in Punta Umbria just before 3pm on 30 December, in time for a lovely lunch and catch up with our son Adam and his girlfriend Melissa.  We had last seen them in early July when we had a week’s holiday with them but it was still an emotional reunion.

Sonny, the motorhome has done 1666 miles in 4 days, so he is now parked up for a well-earned rest (and in desperate need of a wash), whilst we stop at Adam and Melissa’s House.

New Year’s Eve Celebrations started just before midday with drinks in a pub that had a camper van on the wall – couldn’t resist a photo. Then it was off to lunch.

Following lunch we went to Punta Umbria centre, where one of the pubs had a fake snow machine blowing.  The kids loved it as they never get to see snow here for real.

After that it was back home for a little rest, more food and drink, then to Melissa’s parents to see in the New Year.  The tradition here is that every time the bell chimes at midnight you eat a grape.  Not an easy task, especially as mine had pips in!

Next it was champagne and dancing, then on to another house for more drinks and more dancing, flamenco style,  Couldn't resit sharing these videos of Mel showcasing his dancing skills - it was nearly 3am in the morning by this time and he had drunk a lot of gin!  Think I will have to enrol him on some classes whilst we are in Spain.

We got home just before 5am and a bit worse for wear ,as we had drunk far too much.  That said we were all up by 10:30, a quick shower and off to the beach, which is a about 5 minutes walk away.

We were definitely ready for our Siesta this afternoon!

Wishing you all a happy 2017.
