Campsite life at Lago Trasimeno

Sonny (the motorhome) is looking up to the place where one of the biggest military ambushes in history took place, when Hannibal annihilated the Roman Army in 217 BC.
For the last three nights we have been relaxing on campsite La Spiaggia, overlooking Lake Trasimeno (the largest lake in the Italian peninsula, in the Umbria region.  It is only rated a 3* but with the excellent facilities and cleanliness of the campsite we have rated it a 4*!
For the first time this trip we have got the kayak out and Mel couldn't resist taking a video!
The closest town is Passignano sul Trasimeno, an ancient fishing village and is just under 1km walk away from the campsite, along the river.

You can get a boat from here out on the lake and to the island, seen in the photo below taken from the top of the town.

We managed to find a mini-supermarket and butchers, to stock up with a few provisions, and this lovely artisan shop selling lovely coloured pasta.

Treating ourselves to a campsite also means we need to find time to wash clothes (my job) and clean good old Sonny outside (Mel’s job) and inside (my job).  We are still finding sand from the Sahara  Dessert, in the smallest of places - nearly 2 months since we were there!
After all the cleaning jobs Mel enjoyed a swim in the lake and a relax on the sunbeds.  The deepest depth of the lake is about 7 metres and it heats up to the temperature of a warm bath.

Last night was spent chatting with a fellow Brit, Mandy, a lovely lady travelling on her own with her labrador called Honey.  We sat with a bottle of wine outside our motorhome sharing stories of where we have travelled in our motorhomes and life in general.  She is mid 50's and has taken a 6-month sabbatical.   She split up from her husband a few years ago and with her 2 girls now in their early 20's decided it was her time to enjoy life.  So she bought a second-hand motorhome and is travelling around for a while.  Wow, what a brave lady!  She was still finding out how things worked on it and Mel had to show her how to change a break light bulb that had broken, but I take my hat off to her!
We move on today towards Perugia, in search of a motorhome repair shop, as a few things have broken over the last week or so.  Namely the lock on the habitation door, the lock on the water filler and a piece has broken off on our kitchen window, oh yes and we need to spend about 400 euros on some new front tyres.  But it is just materialistic things, we are still happy and enjoying life to its full!
